2013 year was a golden year for Marathi movies when it came to raking in the moolah. We give you a lowdown on some of the biggest hits of the year.
5. Premachi Goshta
The film marked 'Chak De' girl Sagarika Ghatge's debut in Marathi movies. Satish Rajwade yet again struck a chord with the audience and Atul Kulkarni's performance was much appreciated. The film earned good profits, according to the producers and was running to packed houses even after its television premier.
4. Zapatlela 2
The 3D Marathi film lived up to the expectations of the audience. The visual effects and Sonalee's lavni managed to grab eyeballs and appreciation from the audience. Adinath Kothare became a household name, courtesy the film. This film made over 10 crores at BO and within the first week of its release the makers declared that the third movie of the Zapatlela series was in the making.
3. Duniyadari
'Duniyadari' broke all the previous box- office record of the Marathi film industry. With a collection of over 27 crores, it is the highest earning Marathi film of all time. Swwapnil Joshi reportedly hiked his fee after the success of the film to Rs 50 lakhs.
2. BP (Balak Palak)
This film saw actor Riteish Deshmukh's debut as a producer in Marathi films. Released in the first week of the year and the collections of 'BP' crossed the one crore mark in the first weekend. The film collected over 10 crores at the BO and was a hat-trick of sorts for filmmaker Ravi Jadhav who earlier films 'Natrang' and 'Balgandharva' were successful too. Apart from Riteish's involvement in the film, it was also the first time that composers Vishal-Shekhar gave music to a Marathi film.
1. Mangalashtak Once More
This film marked Telugu actress Renu Desai's debut as a producer in Marathi film industry. By casting Swwapnil Joshi and Mukta Barve in the lead, the makers had won half the battle because Swwapnil and Mukta's onscreen chemistry is brilliant. While the film is still running in theatres, the producers have already incurred profits from it.
