After receiving three major Android upgrades, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has made it to the list of devices that will receive the Android 5.0
Lollipop updates. Note 2 is arguably the oldest device to receive the latest Android update.
The release of the update for Note 2 was confirmed by Samsung Poland through a reply to a Twitter user @immichal. No more details have been thrown out yet regarding the update. But, it seems that Galaxy Note 2 owners might get a little lucky soon with the release being confirmed by Samsung Poland.
The original tweet in Polish language goes like this.
@immichal Tak, nasz rzecznik potwierdził dziś podczas #GZR , że GALAXY Note 2 otrzyma aktualizację. Nie mamy jednak dodatkowych informacji.
— Samsung Polska (@SamsungPolska) February 11, 2015 This is not the first time Samsung has given an update to one of its successful products. Earlier, Galaxy S II had received the Android 4.1 update even though it had been released over two years after its unveiling.
Android device makers usually do not give the latest update to devices that are over a year old, and even Google usually does not update its own Nexus products after 18 months of their launch. There are several reasons for this, including low popularity of some products, extensive work required to perfect the software build for each phone, telecom carriers' own requirements etc.
Apple, on the other hand, updates its devices with the latest version of iOS for up to four years.
The possible plans for updating the Note 2 to Android 5.0 might eventually fall through, but we will certainly be keeping our fingers crossed and wait for the update.
